It's been a week since I last updated.
Nothing particularly momentous has happened in this time... hence the lack of an entry.
The reading and writing assignments are keeping me sufficiently busy so that I don't go crazy with boredom. Other than that... things go on...
Last Friday I had an appointment with my adviser. I had gone to him to discuss my plans for my plan of study and we had an hour long chat about different things. He invited me to come to a meeting he had later with doctoral students - just a way to listen to ideas, meet new people etc. It was good... I'm still wondering if I want to join the doctoral bandwagon... at this time, it seems unlikely and unnecessary...
One thing my adviser said was that if and when we saw him talking to someone, we should go and stand next to him, so that he would introduce us and thus, the network would grow. This is good and great... because I'm not too hot at going up to people and introducing myself and the only word I've kept hearing since I got here is "network, network, network!" - once the initial intro is done, shouldn't be a problem. I've already been emailing different people about different things on a whim but the most serious email was sent today... asking another Prof if he'd let me sit in on his meetings about a certain research area of his that I'm interested in. Let's see how that...
Maybe this other Prof will be there tomorrow - we have an ISSA (Instructional Systems Students Association) Fiesta tomorrow - where my Boss will be and I should get introductions done...! Let's see how that goes...
In other news... just been cooking and experimenting.
Last Friday, after I came back from the team meeting, my neighbour asked me if I wanted to come over for dinner since he was making something different - I decided to go and took some stuff with me... so sharing of food and ideas occurred... of course I talked more but then he had questions - Andrew is studying Hinduism and had questions and interest in what I had to tell him about India... so it was all good ... it was past midnight by the time we decided to call it a night...
My kind of evening...
Today, we had another small session - he'd come over to borrow a strainer, I asked for some garlic and I ended up ranting about teaching methods and styles in India and he suggested I look for an MAT in Oregon - just to explore a different part of the country. Let's see...
Next week I'm thinking of making Pav Bhaji... so perhaps we can do this a weekly get together sort of thing...
Other than that... just watching some movies... look for them in the next post!
Coming soon: (Perhaps by the weekend) - Reflections on the comparisons between graduate school experiences back home and here...
