Anecdotes from the week...

To go back to a theme running through the grad school experience, I'm going to share a couple of things discussed in class -

"You get promoted to your level of incompetence."

That's not a direct quote but it makes sense. If you're good at what you do, you keep going higher. Then you reach a certain level where you cannot go higher because you don't have the competencies for that post. Ergo, you're incompetent for the next rung and remain where you are!

In Motivation class, we're currently looking at the concept of confidence and control and something called a Serenity Prayer was mentioned.

I really liked the thought behind it, though I will change a little part to reflect my "views":

Let me have grace to accept with serenity the things that cannot be changed, courage to change the things that should be changed, and the wisdom to distinguish the one from the other.
